Crisco: My Miracle Moisturizer

I get asked frequently "How do you use Crisco" and "What does it do for your hair". So I decided to do another post on the miracle moisturizer. I've used Crisco as a moisturizer and a styling aid for about 6 months and the results have been remarkable and unbelievable. I have noticed virtually no breakage since I've started using the product. And no, it's not greasy, it doesn't smell, and it doesn't make your hair magically grow. Those are also some of the funny questions I am asked when I admit that I use Crisco. Oh, here's another famous one "Can I smell your hair?" LOL!

Crisco is simply an excellent moisturizer, it's natural and inexpensive. It is made of vegetable oil and glycerin-safe to eat and apply to skin and hair. Most of all, it provides the same level of protection as the most expensive moisturizer out there. So I challenge you to try it.

How I use Crisco:
First let me say, I don't use it fresh out of the can. I scoop about a 2 cups of it in a bowl and I work from that for a couple of months. However, on freshly conditioned hair, I apply my base styling product to small sections of the hair (gel or Miss Jessie's or Ouidad depends on the style/mood). Then I go over the section with a dab of Crisco. I proceed to smooth it from roots to end. Style hair. Dry.

I don't wash it out. Once my hair is dried, it is moisturized and best of all not greasy.

I'm certainly going to try it I lost a ton of lenght last week after having to wash my hair...long story:) But it was soooo dry, even after I did a conditioning wash so now I'm trying to whip it back to health. My hair grows lovely just breaks like crazy if a hint of dryness gets hold of it.

I don't know why but when I read Crisco it brought grease to mind which is a no no as it clogs the pores. But duh an oil will penetrate.

Everytime I pass by a tub of Crisco in the supermarket I think about you and then say "There's no way I'm gonna have my hair smelling like butter!", lol... But you just keep convincing me. Does the Crisco help w/ providing sheen as well?

So funny to me that you would post this topic of using Crisco on your hair. My mom who is in her "Fab" late 60s and I just had a conversation recently of how her mother would use Crisco on her hair as a child. She said that my grams even straighten her hair with it. My mom has always had beautiful long hair right up to her 50s and now sports a short sexy look.
So yes ladies using Crisco as moisturizer is the real deal and has been around for some time now.

I'll probably try this one in the future. Sounds better than the mineral oil products. It would be okay if it smelled like pie though :) I use a shea butter, coconut oil, jojoba oil mix on my hair usually.

So would you say you use this instead of an oil moisturizer? How often do you use it? Does it leave any oil on your hair at all?

I LOVE crisco! It's the best and cheapest moisturizer out. I'm transitioning and I've had NO breakage. Did you hear that...NO breakage. I started using crisco with your prompting and it works. Love it and would highly recommend. It's not greasy, not smelly and gives my hair a nice feel and shine.

@ BronzeTrinity

I use Crisco just like Shea Butter-Matter of fact that's what I would compare it to except it glides on a little smoother than shea butter. It is also great for slicking edges and fly aways. And it provides a nice sheen without weighing down the hair (my curls stll shake and move). As far as smell, you can add an essence to it like Lavender, but I've never tried that. It doesn't have an odor so your hair should smell like the conditioner or other styling product that is applied. Let me know if you try it.

i tried it, but for some reason it made my head itch horribly.. i then decided to just stick to my shealoe

I think I've gotten enough courage to just try Crisco and see what happens...

I recently tried shealoe and that made my hair super itchy....I think it's the aloe, but I'm not sure?

I love BURTS BEES HAND SALVE in my hair. Just a tiny dab really makes my hair shiny with nice defined curls. No smell and no greasy feel.

So, I did a blow out the other day and then used Crisco on my hair as a moisturizer for my twist set.

Results...loved it! My hair maintained the moisturize nicely and I think from now on I'll go back and forth between this and shea butter...

YAAY

I tried Crisco on my hair yesterday and loved it. There was no smell and it felt great on my hair. Best of all I only needed a little bit, so that little can goes a long way. I am glad that I have something for the chilly weather.

Rice moisturizer is one natural moisturizers it helps protect the skin from being damaged by UVA and UVB which are the cause of melasma, freckle, and skin cancer. Because it has plentiful minerals, unsaturated fatty acid and vitamins especially the natural vitamin E which is in high quantity as Tocols (Tocopherol & Tocotrienol), Gamma-Qryzanol and Ceramide.

I tried the Crisco like 5 mins ago and you did not lie. That stuff laid my 3b/3c dry hair down like nobody's business.

I had went to forums and their discussions were very skeptical like, "Is this stuff gonna smell like chicken?" or "I can't walk around with Crisco in my hair." But let's be honest, I don't go around telling people what's in my hair, so who would know anyway? I'll just let them stare in awe.

Anywho, I clarified my hair today and applied it straight-up on wet hair out of the shower and put it in a loose bun. It's so sleek and moisturized and the curls have laid down! It's the truth!

I met a girl this weekend that had the most beautiful skin and hair ever. After looking at my tresses and noticing they were a bit dry, she turned me on to her secret. Crisco! Of course, initially I thought she was being funny, but I didnt hesitate to google it and go out to buy a jar. This morning after washing and conditioning my hair. I towel dried it and used a generous amount of fresh Crisco to moisturize. I usually only use Olive Oil (brand) Shine, which keeps my curls in tact and provides shine.

I used the Crisco by itself, and I can honestly say there is no odor, My hair has a nice shine and feels very soft.

Im excited to see what it does for my skin.

Dont hesitate ladies....try it!
